Project idea

AQUASPHERE001 is a future speculation project to anticipate tsunami in Banda Aceh, Indonesia .The idea is for this place to become a shelter during tsunami while also being a coastal market during normal days. The form of AQUASPHERE001 is obtained through multiple possibilities and analysis from the way tsunami approach, hit and impact. Through this project, i hope that Banda Aceh's people can let go of the traumatic past and be able to keep living & move forward. For a long term goals, i hope this coastal market can boost Banda Aceh's sea potential, revitalize the surrounding environment, become the hope of survival during tsunami and even can be a future tourism destination.

Project description

AQUASPHERE001 is a coastal market that focuses on sea comodities. As a market, this place provides floating stores, landed stores, foodcourts, etc. On tsunami event, this place will become a shelter for the surrounding people. Aquasphere001 is able to float, following the course of the tsunami. Through this building, the casualties and victim on tsunami event is expected to decrease. In several decades, this project also expected to decrease people's fear to tsunami and able to raise economical value of this area regionally or nationally through sea comodities imports & exports, sea tourism, etc.

Technical information

A. Characteristics :
The building is planned for at least 41 store, and composed of 4 main parts:
1. ground floor market
a 2500 m square floor slabs created with b-foam that float on the sea.
approximate length : 110 m
approximate width : 70m
store : minimum 20
capacity : 1000- 2000 people

2. second floor market
the second floor market is a 1000 m square b-foam lightweight created according to the shape of the dome (oval) and has a big void in th middle. This slab is supported by a tree structure connected from below to the top of the sphereic oval dome.
store : minimum 14
capacity : 700 - 800 people

3. third floor market & prayer's room
the third floor is a 700 m square seafood foodcourt and a mushola (prayer's room). This slab is composed of b-foam supported by tree structure connected from below to the top of th sphereic oval dome.
store : minimum 9
capacity : 300-500 people

4. Middle sector shelter (inner shell)
a shelter that during tsunami can float or even eject itself from the building (much like a life saving capsule)
the capacity of the shelter is approximately 1000 - 1500 people
with control room and engine room.

shelter is made from titanium alloy designed to work like a mass life saving capsule that can float on waters. The shelter is equipped with signal transmittor and light's so that in case if the shelter's lost in sea, it can still be located.

Control center works as the main head for the building. the development, safety of the building and in case of tsunami, every control & technical needs is control through the control center.

B. Renewable Energy Usage
the building mainly uses solar panel as it's main electricity supply that is located at the topmost of the dome. The top of the dome is the area which get sunlight the most. The energy from the solar panel is then stored in the engine room in the inner shell.

for clean waters, the building recycle waste from the market left overs, and through sea water distillation. throughout the entire floor slabs, a 20x20 canals is instilled in it following the design of the floor. The canal contains the water and filter it first and then channel it to the main pipe moving to the water treatment area.

C. Long term speculation
Because Aceh has a great sea potential. aqusphere001 lower dome, it uses biorock in which can help to grow corals and even sped their growth by around 5 times. In long term, this structure will help to revitalize the surrounding sea environment and increase Aceh's sea potential, this includes other than fish farming, tourism will also grow.

D. Structure
1. Outer shell
the building's outer shell is mainly composed of titanium pipe constructed to become a hexagonal parts. this parts is then covered with carbon fiber and joined to create a hexagonal sphereic dome.

2. Biorock
this is a structure material that is lighter than cement but 3 times stronger than usual cement. this structure is used on the lower half of the dome. other than strong, this material also helps the building to float better.

3. B-foam as floor slabs
B-foam works as the floor slabs , it's a material made from EPS that is so light and strong that it can float on waters while holding approximately 4-5 tons of weight / m square. this materials is used ad the entire building's floor slabs. the floor slabs helps the building to float in the water.
4. Tree- structures
the tree structures is compromised of titanium alloy pipe covered with sorbothane as impact reducer. the tree structure holds the floor slabs strong and also supports the dome to distribute the weight and force evenly.

5. Feet
on each side north, south, west and east, there is an oval feet that works as a feet if during tsunami the building is brought to land. on normal days, this feets also served ad mechanical machine for water treatment area, sewage treatment area, clean water uses, sprinkler machine, and storage.
