Project idea

Projekt sa zaoberá konverziou historickej budovy (z r.1898-1900) bývalej „Ústrednej elektrickej stanice kráľovského hlavného mesta Prahy“, umiestnenej v areáli dnešnej teplárne v Prahe - Holešoviciach. Industriálny objekt elektrárne zahŕňa jedno-lodné budovy kotolne a strojovne, ako i priľahlé teleso komína. Nové riešenie sprístupňuje objekt elektrárne širokej verejnosti vo forme spoločensko-kultúrneho centra, divadla. Návrh pristupuje sčasti puristicky k neskorším dostavbám, novo interpretuje historické princípy a snaží sa nenarušiť historickú hodnotu takmer 100-ročnej architektúry. Rešpektuje hodnoty a skúsenosti doby minulej, ktoré sa snaží reprezentovať.

This project is dealing with the conversion of the historical building (1898-1900) of the former „Central power plant of the Royal Capital City of Prague“, located in the area of a contemporary heating plant in Prague- Holešovice. This industrial area encompasses a single-nave boiler plant, an engine plant as well as an adjacent smokestack. The new solution enables the general public to access the power plant by transforming it into a social and cultural center - theatre. The new design treats the latter building elements partly puristically, newly interprets the historical principles and attempts not to disturb the historical value of the almost 100- year old architecture. This is due to its respect towards the values and experiences of the past, which are here represented.

Project description

Objekt elektrárne (ako i jeho nová dostavba) patrí medzi stavby halové a preberá linearitu územia, ktorá je spojená s vtedajšou parceláciou v Holešoviciach. Je väčšieho merítka v spojitosti s niekdajšími technológiami veľkých rozmerov. Vložením nových funkcií do veľkoobjemových hál vzniká multifunkčné divadlo s nezameniteľnou atmosférou a duchom miesta. Otvorená dispozícia a objemová flexibilita zaručujú opätovné včlenenie prevádzok s veľkými priestorovými nárokmi, napr. spoločensko-kultúrne funkcie, divadlo. Na rozdiel od klasických divadiel poskytuje dodatočnú možnosť ubytovania, rezidencie, skúšajúcim umelcom. Disponuje celkom 5 prevádzkami, v ktorých môže prebiehať program i nezávisle od seba. Sú nimi: veľká scéna, malá scéna, externý stage (exteriérová scéna, pódium), foyér a priestor kaviarne.
Novostavba obsahuje 6 mezonetových bytov pre umelcov. Tí si môžu prenajať nielen byt, ale i nejaký z celkov divadla (napr. malá scéna, nahrávacie štúdio, atď.) a nerušene pracovať a tvoriť.

The object of power plant (as well as its new extension-residence) takes over the historical linearity of the area (parcels=strips). It is more in line with former large-scale technologies, that were here in the past. By putting new elements into the high-volume halls arises a multifunctional theatre with an unmistakable atmosphere and genius loci. Unlike classical theatres, it provides an additional possibility of accomodation, residency, to artists. The building complex consists of 5 functional parts: a large scene, a small scene, an external stage (exterior scene), a foyer and a cafe area. Events in this parts can take place independently of each other.
The new extension includes 6 maisonette apartments for artist. They can rent an appartment in combination with a rehearsal studio or smaller scene or any other functional part of the theater in order to work and produce without disturbing.

Technical information

Novostavba rezidencie je postavená z betónu. Fasády novostavieb sú tvorené z vlnitého plechu medenej farby, ktorý korešponduje s historickými princípmi a materiálmi v industriálnom areáli.

The new extension of residence is built of concrete. The fascade of the new extension is made of metal wavy/corrugated sheet in the warm colour of copper which fits to former fascades.
