Project idea

As an extension of the existing "Meistersingerhalle" an independent concert hall has to be built, which should also work in combination with the old concert hall.

The self-confident extension impresses with its unconventional and outstanding form that can stand for itself but also respects the listed building.

Project description

The space program of the newly built concert hall in Nuremberg is divided into two parts: public and private - plus an extra restaurant that will be integrated.
The areas are inscribed in funnel shapes and superimposed on each other, forming a large "crystal", which is felt throughout the building, and the staircases too are formed into a series of contiguous or widening forms. Due to the height development and the expression of the external appearance, the building becomes a new identification figure of the surrounding district. However, it does not come too strongly into the foreground, as it adjusts to the existing "Meistersingerhalle" in the altitude and thus leaves the venerable old building enough to breathe. Inside the "crystal", the foyer stretches over 5 levels, which are getting smaller and smaller, thus increasing the airspace. As a result, one has a wide variety of viewing directions and visual relationships across several floors. The funnel-shaped steps and decreasing levels allow visitors to experience the feeling of a varied architectural hike as they pass through the building. The foyer is flooded with light through the glass roof and contributes even more to intensifying the impressions from the hike. With a courtyard in the new building, a main element of the "Meistersingerhalle" is taken up in order to give the office wing and the foyer daylight and air. From the rooftop restaurant is a great view of the city and the adjacent park.

Technical information

With the homogeneity concrete façade the impression of a big crystal, underlines the concept even more.
