Pavilion cum Community Center Design is a basic idea of space for everyone that includes the the community that has been divided due to the addition of university in that city. The city and the university have not lived in harmony as the city feels it's identity in threat. This space is for everyone due to its strategic placement between these two worlds and hence brings every one together.
The project brief included the basic spaces in the community center such as multipurpose hall, restaurants, exhibition space, play area, etc. With the special considerations for structure, building materials and the open spaces.
The design surrounds around its location that is in the meeting point of the settlement and the University. This allowed me to create this space as a place where these two worlds meet and live, collaborate and understand each other. So, I designed it in such a way that people who would walk past it, went through it. Having a path that connects two points of the site allowed the public to experience a sense of place through the pavilion instead of walking through the sidewalks. This brought an active public zone where the people not only walked though it but also stayed. The design is wrapped around a three stepped ramp leading the way. That allows the public for accessibility and universal design. Also the ramps are designed as seating spaces creating an open air theatre that provides a view into the vast hills of Kirtipur with the nature and settlement in a view. The elevations and forms are derived from the traditional settlement of Kirtipur that has excessive use of brick and timber with varied lattice works
