Project idea

Main task of a project was to design a two- story Primary School and Nursery Unit on the outskirts of a former brickyard park. Our group set up an idea of dividing building into zones: one for school and one for nursery, locating walking traffic around atriums, located respectively in the center of each zone and building functions around it.

Project description

Designed building has a common entrance yard connecting the entrances to both separate parts of the unit a northern one-storey kindergarten and a southern two-story -primary school. A separate economic driveway to the kitchen of the unit was planned, as well as 44 parking spaces for passenger cars, 32 of which were located within the limits of the regulation line of the Miła street. In the part connecting the plot and the Cegielnia park, there is a sport part of the facility connecting the gym with the pitches and a running track in the open air. The object has a modular structure based on squares. The principle of the project is the layout of functions along the walking traffic inside the object. The main corridors surround the central atrium, ensuring the safety of users and creating a unique atmosphere of the surroundings. Each of the atriums is properly prepared for each age group of users. The kindergarten includes a playground suitable for pre-school children, and the school - a wide square pitch with three seats under trees, providing shelter on hot days. The object is divided into usable zones. The kindergarten was divided into a learning zone from the north-western part of the building, the zone of teachers located in the north, and the cleaning/storage zone in the east. The school was first divided into the first floor - children in grades 1-3 and the second floor - children in grades 4-8. In the school, on the eastern side of the building, there is a science zone, on the south-west side there is a sports zone, a school nurse's room and a part of toilets. In the northern part of the school you can see the biggest difference between stories. On the first floor there is a eating zone with separate dining rooms for kindergarten and for school, with a kitchen connecting them, and a common room. On the second floor is located the further part of classrooms intended for special use (physical, chemical and art room), remaining toilets, and on the north-west side- teachers zone with director's and director's offices, secretary and a teacher's room. The materials used in the project are mainly brick, white paint and metallic finishing of woodwork, referring to the specific features of the location - mainly to the characteristic architecture of Upper Silesia and the Brickyard park.

Two compilation boards with story layouts, sections, elevations and visualisations, and remaining visualisations not used in the final project, but also integral to overall understanding.
