The idea of the project explores the design approach of the vernacular architecture of the tribal people of the Chattogram Hill Tracts of Bangladesh. This project also focus to enhance the resilience of the folk architecture in climate vulnerable country Bangladesh.
The "hilli Chattogram" or Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) is a region in southeastern Bangladesh, specifically in the Chittagong Division. It's known for its extensive hilly terrain and is characterized by the three hill districts: Khagrachari, Bandarban, and Rangamati. It's characterized by low hills and is home to numerous indigenous ethnic groups, including Chakma and Marma. The CHT is an important area for its scenic beauty and distinct cultural heritage and folk architecture. The Chattogram Hill Tracts (CHT) region in Bangladesh is characterized by a unique and diverse landscape, primarily hilly and mountainous, with a rich tapestry of natural beauty and diverse ecosystems. It's known for its dense forests, lakes, and the distinct culture of its indigenous populations.
The project explores energy efficient, sustainable & lightweight construction methodology that can survive the complex climatic condition of Hilli Chattogram including poor soil conditions, salinity, daily water surges, seasonal cyclone, wild animal . Here the tribal people design a lightweight structure which can easily assembled on this hilly site and create aesthetic beauty is very challenging. These tribal inhabitants also conscious landscaping using local flora and fauna as a guideline, symbiosis is created between the architecture and nature which rejuvenates the natural ecosystem and provide safe living spaces for them. Lastly the aim of the project is to facilitate research opportunities and create public awareness by exhibiting hilly life in this territory and also their creative folk architecture. The folk architecture of the site is of three categories, housing, road and tourist spots.
The architectural composition is projected towards the recovery and discovery of one of the most significant vernacular architecture of the Chattogram Hill Tracts of Bangladesh. The folk architecture of these region allow the integration and uniqueness between the natural environment and the architectural environment, consolidating a balance between both entities.

The generating idea is based on the technique of vernacular architecture of the tribal people Chattogram Hill Tracts and how the creation of folk architecture deeply rooted in the essence of their environment, transmitting serenity and calm and retain environmental sustainability. So this project proposal combines the vernacular architectural elements, articulated directly to the living and protection of the environment .
The project found that in this territory traditional vernacular architecture historically adapted to harsh climates, intensified climate change poses new challenges.
The tribal people of Hilly Chattogram acquire the aforementioned architectural knowledge since a long time ago. A region breathes through its green . Today modern civilization hamper natural balance . The ancient folk architecture of the tribal people of Bangladesh harmonized with its surroundings and retain environmental sustainability. The rapid urbanization and use of modern technology as well as set up latest architecture reduce land, decrease trees which cause natural calamity, drought, flood etc. The ancient folk architecture of the Chattogram Hill tracts keep pace with nature as well as protect the environment . In this project the author discover the mechanism of ancient architectural policy of the tribal people of Chattogram Hill Tracts. Here the author also mention how these folk architectural technique used in latest architect and retain the environmental sustainability.
The project seeks to revive and promote vernacular heritage as a resilient solution to climate change impacts, safeguarding the natural environment in Bangladesh.

In this project the author explore the design approaches used in vernacular housing of the tribal people Bangladesh.Here the author also analysis the financial evaluation of the vernacular architecture of the tribal people of Chattogram. These folk architectural technique not only used in the tribal house but also apply in latest tourist resort , Mosque, school as well as road construction etc. These vernacular architect not only convenient but also financially supportable.
Folk architecture in Chittagong tourist areas, particularly in the Hill Tracts, is characterized by raised platforms built with bamboo or timber, reflecting the hilly terrain and the lifestyle of the indigenous communities. These traditional houses are a prominent feature in areas like Sajek Valley, Nilachal, and Chandranath Hills. The Chattogram Hill Tracts Complex also showcases elements of indigenous architecture through its design. This folk architecture in Chittagong can be a significant tourist attraction. The city boasts a unique blend of historical buildings with ancient architecture, mosques, shrines, and natural landscapes, all contributing to its appeal. Chittagong's historical sites, like the Shrine of Shah Amanat, and the natural wonders of the Chittagong Hill Tracts, attract both domestic and international tourists.
The author calculate each year Bangladesh earn three to four crore BDT (approximately 247933 USD ) through international tourism from Chattagram Hill Tracts tourist spots which are made by vernacular architectural policy. Again these folk architecture is eco friendly save every year huge amount of USD.
