Idea projektu

This bus stop design is inspired by the infinity form, symbolizing the unending busyness of Dhaka’s roads, bustling with transport. Starting with a cubic mass, the form is twisted into an abstract infinity curve, representing the city's dynamic flow of movement and life.

The design not only creates an iconic visual but also ensures functionality, with its curves enhancing airflow and reducing wind pressure. The structure integrates sustainable materials, landscaped seating, and accessible features like ramps, making it inclusive and environmentally friendly. Beyond a transit point, it serves as a vibrant community space, reflecting the rhythm of Dhaka's urban life.

Popis projektu

The bus stop project redefines urban transit spaces by merging functionality, inclusivity, and community engagement. Inspired by the infinity symbol, the form represents the ceaseless dynamism of Dhaka's roads. The design includes an inward open-to-sky area that acts as a vibrant social hub, allowing people and students waiting for extended periods to engage in activities like casual conversations, music, or photography. To enhance user convenience, the bus stop features a toilet, an employee restroom, and a newspaper and snacks corner.

Accessibility is ensured with ramps for disabled individuals, providing seamless movement for all users. A ticket vending machine at the front reduces congestion, improving circulation efficiency. The platform accommodates two buses simultaneously, with a capacity to host 30-40 people comfortably. Thoughtful elements like shaded seating, wind-protected parapets, and a strategically placed tree balance shelter and openness, creating a dynamic and welcoming public space that serves as more than just a transit point.

Technical Information

Site Dimensions: 200’ x 100’

Capacity: Designed to accommodate 30-40 people at a time.

Platform: Can hold two medium-sized buses simultaneously.

Accessibility: Includes a ramp for disabled individuals to ensure easy access to the platform.

Structure: The bus stop features an infinity-inspired form with a combination of reinforced concrete and steel for durability and aesthetics.

Open-to-Sky Area: Enclosed by inward-angled glass parapets to shield users from wind and rain. The size and angle of the parapets are calculated based on local wind speeds and rain angles. A strategically placed tree within this area softens direct sunlight and slows down wind, ensuring a comfortable experience for sitters.

Facilities: Includes a public toilet, an employee restroom, and a newspaper and snacks corner for added convenience.

Seating: Shaded seating areas are provided for comfort.

Ticketing System: Features a ticket vending machine and an indoor counter to reduce congestion and streamline ticket purchasing.

Landscaping: The tree in the open-to-sky area not only provides natural shade but also enhances the environment by mitigating harsh weather conditions.

Lighting and Ventilation: The open design ensures ample natural light and ventilation during the day, reducing energy dependency.

This technical approach ensures that the bus stop is functional, accessible, and user-friendly, catering to the comfort of all users while addressing environmental and ergonomic concerns.
