Idea projektu

The project aims to redevelop the Gulshan DNCC market into a dynamic civic center, aligning with the Dhaka Structure Plan 2016-2035. By transforming this essential commercial hub into a sub-regional city center, the initiative seeks to integrate public and cultural facilities such as event spaces, a multipurpose hall, art galleries, a library, and essential amenities. Small vendor shops will be incorporated to maintain the market's commercial vibrancy while fostering a harmonious blend of public and commercial spaces. The overarching goal is to create an inclusive and engaging environment that serves people of all ages and backgrounds, enhancing community interaction and cultural enrichment.

The design includes multipurpose halls, recreational areas, and retail outlets, fostering social interaction and supporting local businesses. With a focus on accessibility and sustainability, the center will serve as a dynamic hub for people of all ages and backgrounds, enhancing community engagement and cultural enrichment.

Technické informace

The west-facing elevation of the building on Gulshan Avenue is strategically designed to reduce direct sunlight and heat gain, particularly during the intense afternoon sun between 3pm and 5pm. To achieve this, the building's form is recessed and extruded, creating shadows that minimize direct sunlight penetration. Additionally, operable louvres are incorporated to further control sunlight and heat. These adjustable slats can be angled to block direct sunlight while allowing diffused natural light to enter, reducing the need for artificial lighting and cooling. The louvres enhance thermal comfort, minimize glare, and improve energy efficiency by adapting to the sun's position throughout the day and year. Moreover, the inclusion of greenery on the façade and surrounding areas adds a sustainable layer by absorbing sunlight, providing shade, and cooling the air through transpiration, which collectively helps lower the building's heat absorption and improve the surrounding microclimate.
