From Papieri to Pabieri - What does HEALTHY LIVING actually look like in the future?
The „Pabieri“ project in Cham explores how communal living and working, beer production, and public access can come together in the spirit of intergenerational inclusion.
Brewing beer as a central process is made tangible as a method for learning, productivity, and therapy for various age groups, opening up new
possibilities for sustainable heat and energy generation through the active use of waste heat from the brewery‘s fermentation process.
The inclusion machine offers, in addition to clothing exchange and workshop services on the ground floor for all neighborhood residents, coworking and studio spaces in the intermediate floors that open up towards the Lorze River.
The openings on the ground floor provide glimpses into the Pabieri bakery,
which, in the tradition of medieval bread-making, processes the spent grain from beer production into vitamin-rich foods.
By reviving analog and artisanal activities, the project aims to promote both physical and mental health in the digital age.
Responsibility and teamwork are strengthened and reshaped in the post-epidemic environment. Organized in shared apartments, people with and without disabilities can live, work, observe, and interact together in various scenarios and configurations. Open and individually designed living, resting, and warm areas around the brewing kettle serve as gallery levels with clotheslines, becoming meeting places for visitors, workers, residents, and caregivers.
New structural elements are integrated into the industrial hall, forming new levels, floors, and zones with steel constructions.
An old paper machine hall is transformed into a vibrant learning and living lab that analyzes, experiments, and integrates.
