The site is situated in a strategic area of Magusa city in Cyprus, where we have the walled city , the sea and with the presence of a historical building within the site which is an old train station which marked the industrial revolution in cyprus, the presence of train in cyprus was a point of change in transportation culture of people in the country.
The idea came when i visited the site and i tried to relate my concept to the function of the project which is a center for cultural studies and at the same time to the existing building which is the train station , that's why i took this last one as a reference for the starting point of revolution which starts and goes up to show the process of bringing the past up to the present, the form of the building is created in a way to symbolize the acceptance of change after the industrial revolution
The creation of spaces is based on use of different shapes , regular and curvilinear to show the diversity of cultures and creation of common spaces as circular which are the vertical circulation areas , with a glass roof to get more natural light and create a pleasing atmosphere , this circular space shows that even if cultures are different but they can have some common points
structure which is made of structural steelcomponents to provide full rigidity. Because of the high strength grade of steel, this structure is reliable , it's used in the whole project , for the auditorium i used steel truss to provide the wide span . I chose steel because steel structure is the cost leader for most projects in materials and design. It is inexpensive to manufacture,it requires less maintenance than other traditional building methods in addition to that, it has a natural beauty
