Idea projektu

Sylhet is widely regarded as a major tourism hub in Bangladesh due to its captivating natural landscapes, historical significance, and cultural attractions. Its lush tea gardens, rolling hills, and scenic rivers make it an ideal destination for nature lovers. However, there are several challenges that tourists may encounter in Sylhet. One of the notable issues is the inadequate infrastructure, including transportation and accommodation facilities, which can hamper the overall travel experience. Another challenge is the limited development of city-based tourism in Sylhet. While the region boasts natural and rural attractions, the city itself lacks significant tourist-centric features, such as well-developed urban attractions, entertainment options, and dedicated tourism infrastructure. Efforts to promote city-based tourism and improve urban amenities could enhance the overall tourism experience in Sylhet. Despite these challenges, the region's natural beauty and cultural heritage continue to attract visitors seeking a unique travel experience in Bangladesh.

A tourist trail that aims to promote Sylhet's heritage, culture, and tourism to both locals and visitors, with equal accessibility for all. By offering an engaging and informative experience, the trail aims to showcase the city's rich history and traditions while encouraging greater participation in the local tourism industry.

Popis projektu

The project aims to transform an inadequate road in Sylhet into a sustainable and accessible tourist trail, showcasing the city's rich heritage, culture, and tourism. It enhances the overall tourism experience for both locals and visitors through engaging experiences while also playing a significant role in the local community's economic development.

Architectural interventions are employed to address challenges and create a vibrant tourist trail. These include dedicated housing zones or compensation for affected residents, aligning road redevelopment with the surroundings, and revitalizing the local market. The Ambarkhana Node will be realigned to ease congestion with a roundabout and an over bridge for improved pedestrian safety.

A central tourist information center has been designed, providing easy access for the local community, featuring additional space for ticket counters and underground parking. Dedicated CNG stands and bus stoppages will help manage congestion and enhance transportation services. The project also includes a culture and heritage pavilion, showcasing Sylhet's uniqueness and offering spaces for local
craftsmen and performing arts. Streetside landscapes and walkways will be improved, waste disposal issues addressed, and permeable green walls introduced for sustainability and aesthetics. Architecturally designed vending zones, playgrounds, exercise areas, and senior citizen zones will encourage physical activity and well-being. An urban food park at Eidgah Point will also celebrate Sylhet's culinary culture, providing a recreational space for locals and tourists. To preserve the natural ecosystem, a carefully planned monkey trail will ensure unhampered wildlife circulation.

In conclusion, the project creates a sustainable tourist trail in Sylhet, promoting heritage, culture, and tourism. Architectural interventions enhance the experience, drive economic development, and benefit the local community. Aligned with SDGs, it addresses health, economic growth, sustainable cities, responsible consumption, and biodiversity. The road is transformed into a vibrant urban environment, leveraging cultural assets for economic growth.
