The idea of the project was to invoke the visitors of the museum with a feeling of unease and constant fear the victims mustve felt under the nazis and how they were able to feel hopeful for a peaceful life after Oskar Schindler took them in to work in the factory instead of the concentration camp.
The feeling of gradual negative to positive feeling was exhibited through the play of lights and shadows as the visitors move to a dark space consisting of the memorial ( butterfly ) and they follow the light streaming from the top as they move through the exhibition spaces. They finally reach the top with space open to the environment finally being able to see the outside world.
The central atrium gradually opens up with more glass windows in it as you move to the upper levels. The windows of the building itself also get longer as u move to the upper levels. Hints of lights can be seen in the lower levels using latticed screen walls.
The floor plates of each floor is divided into 3 segments and has a level difference of 1m each. The entire exhibition building is accessed through ramps only. The people can use the lift from 12m lvl to the basement.
