The idea for the project was inspired by the leg muscle, which means and indicates movement, which was a source of inspiration between linking the functional relationships of the project and the paths of movement between all components of the architectural spaces inside the building.
From this standpoint, which was achieved through embodying and visualizing the shape of the leg muscle and the shape of the flow of the fibers that make up the muscle tissue, I felt the smoothness and flexibility of the structure of the building through abstracting the shape of the muscle and my sense of suitability to the function of the building.
This is what we notice through the distribution of architectural spaces and the connection of blocks to each other.
Design of the Yemen International Hospital project “a 500-bed general hospital”
The design methodology that I relied on in forming and creating the blocks for the building: is the CBD “Concept-Based-Design” methodology.
Under the supervision of Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Al-Ward
It is considered one of the American methodologies in architectural design that was invented by Dr. Muhammad Al-Ward, preparing for his doctorate degree in the United States of America.
I remember at that time the amount and size of the responsibility that was on me to complete the project and the challenge that I set with myself to prepare the architectural and structural designs for the project at the same time. Thus, it was the first major project for an architectural student in the fourth level, designed architecturally and structurally to defy the Earth’s gravity due to the inclined blocks and suspended blocks. I remember the size of the painting. At that time, it was 10 meters long by 2 meters wide. The project was displayed in the university’s courtyard. Thank you from the heart to Dr. Muhammad Al-Ward and engineer Noura Alwan. Your memories are beautiful and immortal in the memory and unforgettable.
The project consists of the following parts:
1- Emergency 2- Surgery 3- Diagnosis and treatment 4- Radiology 5- Laboratories
6- Pharmacy 7- Administration 8- Educational part
9- Burns department 10- Orthopedic department 11- Dialysis department 12- Oncology department 13- Operations 14- Morgue.
15- Mortuary 16- Inpatient and Follow-up Department
17- Intensive Care 18- Isolation Unit for Infectious Diseases
19- Green Areas 20- Physiotherapy Department 21- Services and Maintenance 22- Medical Waste Disposal Unit.
The construction system of the building is reinforced concrete, in addition to the construction system of steel and glass, and the exterior cladding is a hybrid between solid and glass, especially Ecobond.
