Idea projektu

A good design is meant for everyone. This became the driving force in designing a public space. The main focus that is also urgent in society is inclusivity. It all started from the concern about the little amount of friendly public spaces in the city. Dwara Ardana is designed to be a warm and friendly space for everyone, together with its specific function as an exhibition and convention center.

Popis projektu

Dwara Ardana is an exhibition hall that is open every time for
everyone. People can pay a visit even though there isn’t any event. It is designed for people to interact with each other and create wonderful moments in the public food court, public pavilion, and open spaces. ‘Dwara Ardana’ itself derived from the Sanskrit language, which is the language used during the heyday of the Majapahit kingdom in East Java. ‘Dwara’ means gate or entrance, while ‘Ardana’ means wealth or treasure. For so long, Surabaya has been known as a harbor city in the East Java province, having the role of the ‘entrance gate’ for traders or merchants and becoming the center of economic growth on the island. This history became the inspiration for the building form, to show how dynamic the business and economic condition of Surabaya is, since the era of Majapahit kingdom up till today as the second largest city in Indonesia.

Technické informace

The building has 3-story floors in a slim elliptical shape, then covered by a customized curved roof. As this building is facing west, it will get some uncomfortable sunlight at a particular time, so this building is designed with louvers surrounding the building. The louvers are designed with different heights causing a beautiful formation and harmony that somehow shows such dynamic. This building is equipped with a rainwater harvesting system, which collects rainwater and uses it for plant irrigation and other. This system supports sustainability as it helps to save water. High technology is also used and implemented through other different kinds of things such as materials, MVAC systems, and installations.
