Idea projektu

As an urban regeneration project, Through studying the historical and cultural values, It proposed a well-connected urban system for Birkenhead in the Wirral metropolitan in Uk. While responding to the existing grid pattern, the initial urban idea was to reconnect, restrict, and reimagine by developing the northern and southern parts with mixed residential spaces with a centralized commercial hub in the city center.

The study, which extends the existing pattern from east to west along Hamilton Square as well as from south to the north side docks, proposed an urban system that would be formally connected using the abandoned train line as a developed green corridor. The waterfront area was proposed as an interactive hub for community gathering and new projects and functions were proposed to increase the functional attraction of the city center.

This museum, which I have chosen, is located at a very valuable interactive point and it contains a strong connection with the pedestrian lines. As well as it’s located at the edge of the green corridor and has direct connectivity with the city center towards the Wirral water campus side. The project's intention was to develop the waterfront as an interactive public space by connecting every three sides with more transparency as well as providing value addition to the context with iconic function. The proposed transport museum will provide a strong attraction to the place with iconic monuments and emphasize the value of Birkenhead through memorizing historical transport history. As well as it created an interactive hub with transparency on each side with ramps and kept the continuous pedestrian and cycling movement. And also this acts as a symbol for Birkenhead and developed as a commercial hub with extra income.

Popis projektu

Client - Wirral Borough Council
The objective of the design is to regenerate the Birkenhead city center with proper community interaction with public spaces linked with the pedestrian and cycling pathways towards the waterfront with new socio-economic development.

Problem identification and main course ---

The waterfront context acts as a community interactive intersection point with the straight continuation of the green corridor towards the water body which connects the northern and southern residential blocks with strait connectivity towards the city center with the existing grid pattern.

The existing waterfront context is not properly utilized without considering its value and it is empowered by warehouses. With,

*Lack of green spaces on the waterfront
*Less vibrant end Not been properly utilized the valuable site in the *Misused Intersection point

Objectives
 Providing adaptable and multifunctional public space with different levels
 Generating Green Roof Park
 Stable position to existing Museum
 Value addition through the newly imposed maritime museum section.
 Properly utilized water body through extended decks.
 Connecting ground and water
 Strengthen the tramway service and routes.
 Connecting the pedestrian and cycling pathways.
What is the need for a Museum here?
 Depending on the important waterfront location of the site, this acts as an intersection point that connects two sides of the dock in parallel to Tower road.
 Birkenhead is a town packed with transport heritage
 To this end, it is important to restore the existing museum according to our master proposal, which is currently run on a voluntary basis, with an iconic character.
 A Transport museum will create a public center with the flexibility to create value addition to the docks by connecting land and water body functionally and economically.

Solution

Environmental Strategy & Detail

The main objective of the project was to develop the waterfront area with more interactive green spaces as a sustainable build space while creating a solid void combination with green spaces while incorporating green spaces as the building elements.

The landscape was designed with responding to the green corridor proposed in the urban design and it contained the direct linkage through the green corridor with pedestrian and
cycling pathways towards the site. And it directly connected to the rooftop garden through ramps and extended the landscape towards the higher level. The paved external surface contains
buffer zones with greenery which provides seating spaces in between which are linked with the cycling pedestrian pathways.

Structural & Constructional Strategy & Detail

In order to build a sustainable design, the ambition is to create the building structure with lightweight reusable materials. As well as including an easy maintenance ace with more flexibility to reduce the footprint of extensions with easy construction through minimum carbon emission.
