Idea projektu

Beirut Seaport Development Project Timing of the explosion: 4 August 2020 The objectives of the project:
1- Reducing the incidence of another explosion due to flammable materials by transporting flammable materials to a new terminal away from the population and the port, and transport between the new terminal and the rest of the port is carried out by locomotives.
2- Attention to the economy and trade by providing pavements and their area and increasing tourist areas with tourist attractions and increasing income
Such as: hotel, international exhibitions, mall, aquarium and memorial area
3- Emotional connection between citizens and the port, as its function was not limited to international trade and travel, but was used in commercial, investment, tourism, and leisure activity. By providing: a commercial entertainment mall, memorial area to commemorate the explosion, international exhibition area, Aquarium, investor office area, and tourist hotel.

Port Sustainability Ways
• Providing alternative energy sources for docked ships
Ports can modify their infrastructure to provide alternative fuels such as LNG instead of fossil fuels.
Ships docked at ports can also be connected to the "electric grid" (powered by renewable energy). This helps prevent greenhouse gas emissions, as well as oil spills, known as the Onshore Energy Source (OPS).
• Improving waste disposal facilities
Improper waste disposal poses a major threat to the health of our oceans.
Ports can improve their disposal systems without harming ocean life or the environment
Rainwater can also be harvested and stored for cleaning and other activities at ports.
• Use big data to improve efficiency
ports can take advantage of big data and predictive tools to improve ship scheduling and prevent their accumulation. This would significantly enhance port productivity, save time and money, and avoid waste of fuel and unnecessary emissions.
• Port equipment upgrade
Currently, port equipment has not been built with sustainability in mind. Machines such as cranes, forklifts, and diesel trucks are used, increasing the already high carbon footprint of the industry. These machines can be upgraded to use cleaner fuel with lower emissions

Sustainable Applications:
1- Water purification tree:
Sustainable umbrellas are designed to collect, store and utilize rainwater in irrigation
2- Power-generating lighting poles:
Design of lighting columns along the streets of the port powered by wind
3- Power production from waves:
Through uniquely shaped buoys rise and fall as the waves move up and down. The pressure from the movement of floats is then delivered to the power plant on the ground, rotated in the generator, producing electricity, and sent to the grid.
4- Water wall:
Four sustainable waterfall water walls have been designed to produce energy at the port `
5- Wind power farms:
Seven water-installed turbines have been built to produce energy used at the port, in general, to make the port more sustainable.
6- Recycling center:
Recycling and separating waste and plastic to make the port more sustainable
7- Mushroom solar panel:
COVERED WITH SOLAR PANEL use sun radiation and save energy then use it all over the area
8- Solar panels:
Using sunlight throughout the day with solar panels to produce energy in waiting areas or shaded seats
9- Energy-producing umbrellas:
Designed at the hotel to exploit the sun's energy throughout the day to produce enough energy for the hotel's needs

Sustainable materials
Environmentally Sustainable Glass. To achieve increasing levels of energy conservation to reduce environmental and economic impacts associated with excessive energy use.
improved rainwater management system, Intensive Green Roofs can have water retention capabilities of up to 90%., reducing the energy usage of buildings.

Ways for Green shipping to reduce greenhouse gases
LNG as an alternative fuel
Using LNG as fuel will reduce co2 by 20%, along with significantly reducing Sulphur oxides and nitrogen oxides.
Slow fumigation
By reducing speed by 10%, they can reduce emissions by 19%. Slow fumigation is a practice that does not require an adequate budget and has economic and environmental benefits.
Reducing empty containers
Each third container is known to be shipped empty. This means that a third of the 150 million empty containers were moved in 2018, and this gives considerable room for improvement. This costs about $20 billion to the shipping industry each year in terms of storage fees, handling fees and low usage fees.
Ballast Water Management
Large container ships use water as a ballast to maintain stability when they do not carry any shipment. Reduces pressure on the hull, makes the ship stable, helps maneuver the ship, and improves propulsion. While this helps the ship in many ways, the water pumped into the ballast becomes a host environment for organisms such as bacteria, microbes, larvae, cysts, etc. Water is then pumped into the port when the cargo is loaded onto the ship and these newly bred organisms enter the water ecosystem where they are strange
renewable energy
Endless wind and sun energy can be harnessed to power all types of ships, helping to reduce fuel consumption, emissions, and greenhouse gases.
