Center of Innovation in Bratislava - Transformation of the Courtyard

Idea projektu

The design concept is creating a center courtyard which containing multiple buildings that are connected to each other. There are three buildings and all together serves as the new research center of the Slovak university of technology. The design has created in a way that it is iconic from the Ariel view. Passive design strategies has been used in order to reduce the foot print and achieve the energy saving features. the connectivity between buildings has provided through both ground pathways and bridges which connects upper floors to make ease of the movement and reduce traffic. The design provides many leisure spaces in the outdoor with greeneries. The existing courtyard is partially used as a parking lot and the designed parking area is located underground which facilitate parking for 110 vehicles at once.

Popis projektu

The aim of the project is to transform the center courtyard of the Slovak university of technology in Bratislava, Slovakia. The site is located in the center yard of the STU surrounding many important institutions. The site contains two buildings including a heavy laboratories which can be either abolished or preserved.

Technické informace

The basement is not completely underground since it's a semi basement. which contains 1' concrete columns to bear the entire innovation center weight. Sliding windows and and huge openings are used to maximize the airflow inside every area of the building. Windows and doors are made of aluminum thermally insulated profiles that are up to the required level of standards and regulatory. Most of the structure are from steel bars and the walls are concrete and bricks. To reduce heat gain inside the building I've used some aesthetically placed elements attached to the building which works as a sunshades.
