Idea projektu

The upcoming building of the information centre responds to the lack of free space and disorientation of the entire complex. This created the shape of a ring, which provides a unifying atrium. It is perched on existing buildings. The main idea and concept is to build as small an area as possible and create a central centre point. In the rest of the courtyard, a pleasant living and relaxation space will be created for the needs of university campus and for potential new students and the public. It will help revive the current dead space.

Popis projektu

The main goal is to create free and airy space in the courtyard of STU Bratislava for the stay of students, employees and also visitors from the public. Due to the idea of unifying all faculties into a central location, it is designed as a ring on massive supports creating a central atrium. It thus represents the interconnection of all faculties of the university. The ring is picked up as an extension to the previous heavy laboratories and lecture halls. The use of existing buildings will reduce the built-up area and construction waste. The remaining two supports are formed by two extensions with four above-ground floors, in which there are massive passages on each side, which can be served as protection against rain and sun. The passages also serve to simplify movement and at the same time as an element that optically opens the space.

The interior of the information centre is designed in two parts, for the public and for the needs of the university. The public part includes an information centre, an experiential science centre, a cafeteria, and exhibition spaces. The second academic part includes the StartUP centre (which is a combination of public and school parts), laboratories, lecture rooms and auditoriums, meeting rooms, administrative workplaces, and heavy laboratories. The main entrance is in the heart of the courtyard, on the border of the ring and the relaxing area. The building is vertically connected by a combination of stairs with elevators and horizontally by corridors, which are also connected to the existing heavy laboratories. A diverse facade solution helps to divide the old and new building. It is a light suspended perimeter cladding made of perforated sheet metal on the ring and extensions in combination with white plaster on existing buildings.

In the exterior, pleasant, relaxing spaces, and nooks for spending free time will be shaped with the help of landscaping. To overcome the height difference of the land, a residential staircase with built-in barrier-free ramps is designed. The staircase is a combination of a classic staircase, ramps and sunny asymmetrical terraces with benches.

Technické informace

The main construction material is a combination of reinforced concrete with ceramic aerated concrete blocks. The skeletal system in the underground garages developes a regular grid after 5,5m, which is repeated on all subsequent floors. The dimensions of the columns in the newly designed part are 500 x 500 mm. The raster in the previous buildings will be preserved and copied to the built-in floors. Lattice girders will be used to bridge the large spans above the passages to the atrium to the entire height of the wall. The span reaches a width of 17 meters. In the horizontal direction, a 200 mm thick ceiling is proposed using reinforced concrete ceiling panels for large spans. Facade plasters at existing lecture hall buildings will be revitalized. In the building with heavy laboratories, the existing perimeter cladding will be demolished and subsequently replaced by reinforced concrete monolithic walls with a newly designed grid of windows. The construction of the facade cladding of the new building and outbuildings will be by means of a suspended light perimeter cladding made of perforated sheet metal th. 2 mm. It is a grid of square supporting frames with the filling of the already mentioned perforated sheet metal. Work platforms are designed on each floor for maintenance and repairs. The whole building will be constructed on the base plate th. 800 mm with drainage layer and anti-radon insulation. The roof structure is composed of a green roof with extensive greenery in combination with the "blue roofs" system to improve rainwater retention. Rainwater will be retained in retention tanks. It will continue to be used for irrigation, flushing and for use in the information centre itself. Barrier-free access and movement, including the exterior, is provided throughout the complex.
