Spišská Nová Ves. Located in the east of Slovakia, it is one of the most beautiful towns in the country. It is characterized by the seven wonders of the town, which include the lentil-shaped square, the redoubt building with the theatre and the Greek Catholic church with its mosaic inside.
On the other hand, Spišská Nová Ves also has its beauty defects. One such area is in close proximity to the above mentioned three wonders of the town. It is a place that is characterized by its current not very attractive impression and is in unpleasant contrast with its surroundings. There are dilapidated public toilets and permanently closed kiosks. I have focused on this whole block in my proposal because I see potential in it, as the plot also includes a park with healthy trees, a market where people like to buy local produce and a fairly spacious car park, which is needed at the centre like salt.
The people of Novo mesto like culture - there are several theatres, a museum and an art gallery in the town. However, it is the latter that is the weak link. One of the reasons for this is the unsuitable space for exhibitions, as it is housed in a historic house on the square with vaulted ceilings and an impossible to move layout. People prefer to go and see artists exhibiting in alternative spaces such as cafés.
The concept of the work is to expand the Spiš Artists Gallery with the addition of a café and, given the plot of land I have chosen, also to incorporate the market, public toilets, storage and car park into the design. The main idea was to create a space suitable for new exhibitions of contemporary artists, which would be sustainable thanks to the café and enhanced by the market. I achieved the connection in the form of a common roof, from which the gallery is elevated as the most important object of the complex. The roof is anchored on the individual buildings and is carried up by trusses. Materially, it consists of corrugated metal, which alternates with three strips of polycarbonate for the overlighting. The buildings are also functionally interconnected. The warehouse can be used by market traders as well as a café or gallery. The gallery consists of one large open space with a loose layout, which can be adapted by each artist using movable partitions to suit their own needs. The café is open to the surroundings through glass walls and doors. Access is provided from the southeast side of the car park for deliveries of goods and artworks.
The proposal represents an overall enhancement and seeks to raise the standard of this block, which is located in a pleasant setting adjacent to the centre, but its potential is untapped.

Spišská Nová Ves. Nachádza sa na východe Slovenska, patrí medzi najkrajšie mestá krajiny. Je charakteristické siedmimi divmi mesta, medzi ktoré sa zaraďuje šošovkovité námestie, budova reduty s divadlom aj grekokatolický chrám so svojou mozaikou vo vnútri.
Na druhú stranu má Spišská Nová Ves aj vady na kráse. Jedna taká oblasť sa nachádza v tesnej blízkosti vyššie spomenutých troch divov mesta. Ide o miesto, ktoré je charakteristické svojím súčasným nie príliš príťažlivým dojmom a je v nepríjemnom kontraste s okolím. Nachádzajú sa tam chátrajúce verejné WC a permanentne zatvorené kiosky. Na tento celý blok som sa zamerala vo svojom návrhu, pretože v ňom vidím potenciál, keďže súčasťou parcely je aj park so zdravými stromami, trhovisko, kde ľudia radi nakupujú domáce produkty a celkom priestranné parkovisko, ktoré je pri centre potrebné ako soľ.
Novoveštania majú radi kultúru - v meste funguje niekoľko divadiel, múzeum, galéria. Práve tá je však slabým článkom. Jedným z dôvodov sú aj nevhodné priestory pre vystavovanie, keďže sídli v historickom dome na námestí s klenbovými stropmi a nemožnosťou hýbať s dispozíciou. Ľudia sa radšej chodia pozerať na umelcov, ktorí vystavujú v alternatívnych priestoroch, ako sú napríklad kaviarne.
Konceptom práce je rozšírenie Galérie umelcov Spiša doplnený o kaviareň a vzhľadom na parcelu, ktorú som si vybrala, tak isto začlenenie trhoviska, verejných WC, skladu a parkoviska do návrhu. Hlavnou myšlienkou bolo vytvoriť priestor vhodný pre nové výstavy súčasných umelcov, ktorý by bol udržateľný vďaka kaviarni a ozvláštnený trhoviskom. Prepojenie som dosiahla formou spoločnej strechy, z ktorej sa výškovo vyčleňuje galéria ako najdôležitejší objekt komplexu. Strecha je zakotvená na jednotlivých budovách a vynášajú ju priehradové nosníky. Materiálovo pozostáva z vlnitého plechu, ktorý sa strieda s troma pásmi z polykarbonátu na presvetlenie. Objekty sú medzi sebou prepojené aj funkčne. Sklad môžu používať trhovníci, ako aj kaviareň či galéria. Galériu tvorí jeden veľký otvorený priestor s voľnou dispozíciou, ktorú si môže každý umelec prispôsobiť pomocou pohyblivých priečok podľa vlastnej potreby. Kaviareň je otvorená do okolia prostredníctvom sklenených stien a dverí. Z juhovýchodnej strany z parkoviska je zabezpečený prístup pre dodávky tovaru a umeleckých diel.
Návrh predstavuje celkové zveľadenie a snaží sa o pozdvihnutie úrovne tohoto bloku, ktorý sa nachádza v príjemnom prostredí pri centre, no jeho potenciál je nevyužitý.
