Idea projektu

The conceptual idea of the project is focused on the existing amphitheatre and its potential, originating from its geometrical and functional qualities, with the use of water, local materials and inspiration from local culture and needs.

Formed as a crescent elevation, the amphitheatre juxtaposes two slopes
– the internal auditorium, as well the external slopes, offering the view on the surroundings. Therefore, in practice, the building holds two audiences: one facing the scene on the interior, and the other offering a perspective on the surroundings. The idea of the project is to take advantage of the existing audience, as well as the potential of the hill overlooking the area
– to create two faces of the theatre.

Popis projektu

To ensure the realization of the idea, the composition of the project is defined by the geometry of the amphitheatre and reinforced using water. Four water ditches organize the area into a radial layout. The streams channel rainwater from the amphitheatre roof and slopes as well as the surrounding area into underground cisterns, cooling down the newly designed and the existing pavillions.

Following the idea of two perspectives offered by the theatre, the newly designed external spaces are mirroring the layout of the theatrical interior – each slope overlooks an open area for activities, enclosed by pavillions containing different facilities of the project.

The land use is set to preserve the existing greenery and encourage boundary free use of the area – the project displays a natural, organic proposal of paths and walkways, which is not a decisive design, yet a possible vision of land use which comes to life simultaneously with the exploitation of the area.

Functionalities of the project are placed in the new theater building (which provides an extended stage area) as well as around the theatre in pavillions, placed within a radial composition enforced by watar drainage system.

The drainage system, which organizes the spaces around the amphitheatre, plays a key role in the functionality of the project as a cooling factor. Water is drained from the roofs and aphitheatre slopes into the ditches, and then stored in cisterns under the buildings, to take part in the cooling process.
