INTRODUCTION:
India is the largest producer of films in the world and very old film industry in the world . In 2009 India produced a total of 2,961 films that includes a staggering figure of 1,288 feature films. Indian film industry is multi-lingual and the largest in the world in terms of ticket sales and number of films produced and 5th largest in terms of revenue. All films seek exposure and, for many films, festivals are among the few available platforms that give such exposure.
WHAT ARE FILM FESTIVALS?
Film Festivals are annual events staged by universities, private organisations, local governments, arts associations and film societies. They provide an opportunity for unknown film makers to get their movies in front of a real live audience and to have their movies reviewed by professional critics. Film makers whose movie gets accepted into a festival also get valuable press attention and exposure to prospective agents and buyers. Film Festivals give new talent an opportunity to shine while also show casing the work of already well known and respected film makers. Festivals can range from huge star studded events such as Cannes Festival in France or the Sun Dance Film Festival in the United States, to small, independent local awards that garner just a few hundred attendees. But all festivals have something in common. They celebrate the art of film and they champion the artists who produce it.
INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL OF INDIA (IFFI):
The International Film Festival of India (IFFI), founded in 1952, is one of the most significant film festivals in Asia. The festival aims at providing a common platform for the cinemas of the world to project the excellence of the film art contributing to the understanding and appreciation of film cultures of different nations in the context of their social and cultural ethos and promoting friendship and cooperation among people of the world. The IFFI has been held in Mumbai, Chennai, Calcutta, Delhi and Kerala. It was moved to Goa in 2004. In 2014 the central government declared Goa to be the permanent venue to host IFFI.

AIM:
1.To provide a world class infrastructure, in Goa, for the International Film Festival of India.
2.The project is to create a space for socio-cultural interaction, leisure and entertainment.
3.The project will set a new standard for development and promotes tourism and thereby economy.
4.This project will help in a massive spin-off in businesses like hotels, airlines etc., and also increases the investment in infrastructure of the state.
5.It will also move Goa beyond the status of a tourist attraction and gradually make it a cultural destination on an international level.
6.The project involves a variety of theatres and other spaces which has to be addressed through architecture.

METHODOLOGY:
1.A research is done to understand how film festivals work to identify the amenities that are to be defined in the new proposal.
2.Studying various examples which supports similar activities to identify different design strategies and challenges and also understand the built character, its association with people and its surroundings.

Popis projektu

Goa is known for its scenic beauty and beaches. The site for the intended IFFI campus needs an area of 20-25 acres and will have more value addition if it is sea facing. But such a big plot next to the beach is not available near the present IFFI headquarters. The extension of IFFI headquarters and its other venues are not possible. Hence a new site has to be located which is well connected to other parts of the city and which satisfies the other requirements for selecting the site. The site for the proposed project is located at Cacra village, in Taleigao near the Goa university. Taleigao is a developed village in Goa which is 5kms away from Panaji. The site is 7.7kms away from the present IFFI headquarters. The site is well connected to other parts of the city, the site is surrounded by many hotels, resorts, apartments houses and is adjacent to Odxel beach and attracts tourists and students since it is a clean and secluded beach. There are no recreational areas near the site for the residents of the locality and for the students of Goa university.

DESIGN SYNTHESIS:
The intended venue for the International Film Festival of India, Goa has to be an integrated campus housing various spaces to practice, perform and to encourage art and culture. This cultural campus acts as a CATALYST that will have a ripple effect on Goa’s economy. The IFFI is a much awaited event on the cultural calendar and it attracts not only delegates and tourists but only potential investors. Hence it needs to have different types of spaces for different types of performances. Since, it is a very large project, the project has been divided into 3 phases based on priority and need.
PHASE I : Includes Administration block, a zone of theatres that includes lecture halls, experimental theatre(black box), live stage theatre and an auditorium for 2000 people
PHASE II : Includes a theatre building that will have 6 screens to project movies along with areas for shopping and recreation and an amphitheatre
PHASE III : This includes landscaping the entire campus Area for each of the phases is calculated and designed accordingly. For the current semester term work PHASE I has been designed.
