Idea projektu

This project is to revitalize depressed historical area by designing an regional administrative complex in Onyang on the outskirts of Asan, Korea. Onyang was the famous vacation place for hot spring in Joseon Dynasty. The regional administrative complex is composed to a community center and a residents’ self-governing center The site was filled with historical buildings during the Joseon Dynasty. In the Japanese colonial era, railroads were opened for transportation, and most of the traditional places were destroyed and now turned into an underdeveloped farming village. By planning administrative complex facilities, I want to enhance identities of the site and revive the depressed area.

Urban and architectural design strategies of sustainability are the key issues in architectural design in these days. New architectures should be able to minimize energy waste and carbon dioxide and waste emissions for ‘sustainability’ and respond appropriately to the changes climate and resources. Therefore, new trend “sustainability architecture” can be the key element to revival this area with the project.

Popis projektu

There are historical buildings next to the site. the ctrend to connect cultural assets was formed in consideration of this. This flow is designed to induce people to traffic line around and bring people together where people gather and interact each other. Programs were arranged around the place where this interact took place, and were designed to create more active exchanges by connecting the exterior and interior of every space. I hope that the sense of place of the region will be restored through such exchanges. Also, an efficient space was considered by forming a wind path toward a central location, so that cool winds blew in the hot summer and air stayed in the cold winter.
PLAN
Banks, community centers were organized, while banks with strong independence placed buildings separately. In addition, the Community Service Center planned to be close to the main entrance as it is expected to be heavily used. The functions of the community center were deployed in the north and in the middle of the site. Book cafes for communication, can be placed in the center of the site and used as open spaces. In addition, to overcome the 5m height difference within the site, a lamp was installed around the building and a path was designed to circulate smoothly around and throught the building.
The materials of this building are modernly reinterpreted using wood and stone founded in traditional Korean buildings.

Technické informace

Through the autodesk flow program, wind flows around the designed mass was simulated. The wind flows around the elliptical mass (book cafe). In order to maximize the wind flow, the water feature surrounding the book cafe mass was designed. The water feature cools down heat inside of the book cafe in the summer and create natural ventilation in the cafe.
In addition to the water feature, this administrative complex used a variety of eco-friendly systems such as a vertical garden, double skin facades, roof garden, louvers. The vertical garden blocks solar energy a can be effected by air purification and noise insulation. In summer, hot heat is circulated in cold heat, and heat is preserved in winter to keep the room warm. The rooftop garden prevents the roof from getting hot and blocks the solar energy with a louvers to block the hot sunlight inside the building.
