NYENI Communal & Gallery Space aims to provide a platform for artists in Surabaya.
The reason behind establishing this space is the lack of venues for young artists in Surabaya to host events. Often, they collaborate with coffee shops or other informal venues to organize collective events. Additionally, the site itself has been an abandoned building for several years, causing inconvenience to the surrounding community.
NYENI adopts a multi-mass concept divided into five sections, with the main building serving as the gallery for art and performances, designed to align with the site. The structure is shaped to "embrace" inward, centering around the middle of the site/stage area, which serves as a focal point. This central area is envisioned as the vital spot of the entire design.
The building utilizes a WF steel structure with dimensions of 60 x 60 cm, employing a wide-span method with a 13-meter spacing between the steel columns. The roof is made of spandek, layered with aluminum foil or bubble foil for insulation. The walls are constructed using bricks and cement.
