Idea projektu

Kahramanmaraş has witnessed many painful earthquakes throughout its history. These earthquakes continue today. Two major earthquakes occurred in Kahramanmaraş on February 6th. Atatürk Park started to be used as a tent city after the earthquake and currently provides temporary shelter for many earthquake victims. With the formation of the tent city, an education gap has emerged in the tent city. Spaces and places to work are missing. In order to protect these annexes, a library was designed in the tent city among the trees in the park. The destroyed city will rise again in time and this process will be a difficult transition period. In this difficult process, it will continue to function as a place of work, learning, socialization and gathering, connecting the past to the future without forgetting it. The answer to the question of how a solid structure should be in an earthquake zone is sought and a reference is sought for new cities and structures to be established. In this park, which is actively used by the people of Kahramanmaraş in fairs, events and weddings, after the tent city is removed, the library will continue to exist by serving its immediate surroundings.

Popis projektu

The project we designed is a focal point due to its location. Since the tent texture around the project is not permanent, the designed library will undertake tasks such as education, meeting basic needs and helping each other in the short term.

The parcel was privatized by playing with the topography of the land. A fusion pit was created by pulling down the experience with a slight slope. In this pit, a soup kitchen was first established to serve the people in the tent city. Later, the library was created as a ramp, and the ramp turned into platforms and the quiet units of the library were moved to the upper levels.

A book wall was designed between these ramps. This book wall both carries the ramp and some of the shelves that have been emptied inside have been turned into seating areas and opened for active use. Sustainability is also discussed in the created mass. It will continue to exist after the tents are removed.

As the mass rises, it gets quieter and separates from the plane it is in in order to get away from the chaos in the current situation. With the soup kitchen returning to a book donation point after the tents have been removed, it is aimed to become a center that will continue to provide mutual assistance.

Technické informace

In the structure diagram of the building, the material unfolding and the carrier system are seen. The carrier system is designed as a steel structure. Mesh surfaces were used on the facade of the building to protect it from the burning sun effects of Maraş. In order to ensure the integrity of the building with the surrounding texture, a completely white color was chosen. Corten material was used to emphasize the ramp.

It was positioned according to the western wind blowing from the west and the sun direction on the plot. A solar panel was placed on the roof to use the climate of the region to ensure sustainability. Thus, the energy produced is stored in the warehouse in the library, meeting the energy needs of technological devices such as computers.
