Idea projektu

Wind, as the most dominant element present in Dalmacija, can be seen as a symbol of the mutual connection between people and nature. It is the movement of air that can travel across borders, connecting different places and cultures. This can be seen as a reminder of the interconnectedness of all living things and the importance of considering the impact of our actions on the world around us. This powerful natural force that not only shaped the landscapes along the Velebit, but is also a factor that largely shapes the built environment. Its potential in Starigrad is used within the project in different ways, taking into account its effects on the building's structural integrity and energy efficiency so that the designed objects are built in harmony with the natural environment, instead of trying to control it.

Popis projektu

The commercial center is located next to the zone closest to the marina as an object that modifies the direction of the wind flow and thus mitigates its impact. Within the commercial center, there is a division into a tourist-frequent zone (restaurant/café) and a business part that includes co-working spaces, offices and conference rooms. The steel structure ensures that the entire structure defies all possible weather conditions and creates a direct connection through vertical communication between the promenade and the commercial center. The idea of the circulation of wind that can move through and around the object, connecting the interior and exterior spaces, encouraging the connection with the natural environment and interactions between people, is introduced there. Traffic is designed in such a way as to physically define the zones, thereby rejecting the possibility of local residents (private villas) mixing with tourists (commercial center; hotel). Moving part of the promenade to the water, which at the same time forms the marina, enables people to connect with the sea and provides a flow of movement in that area. The form and construction of the marina provide the possibility of controlled access of ships and sailboats to the marina. Two circular metal islands above the concrete pylons serve to support the bridge. To maintain the navigability of the canal, the central span is movable: the two central parts of the linear structure rotate with electric motors and ensure the smooth entry of ships into the marina. Vegetation was kept to the greatest extent in its existing state, which made it possible to solve the pedestrian movement at the location in question, where paths with ramps and stairs were established through the green parts, which gives visitors a special feeling of untouched nature.

Technické informace

The commercial center's floating structure is supported by only four vertical steel lattice columns that extend from ground level to the roof. This striking visual quality, which is one of the most recognizable features of the project, arose as an idea of comparing the pillars with tall trees that integrate the entire structure with the vegetation and function as light shafts as well as storage for all utilities, networks and systems. In addition to visual identity and vertical communication, this construction serves as a basic means of supporting and supporting the entire building. In the design of the facade, local stone was used as the basic material. The form and construction of the marina are of the pontoon type placed on pylons. The movable bridge is made of two circular steel islands above concrete pylons that serve as bridge support. Steel islands enable the mobility of the bridge and rotate it using an electric motor when ships enter the marina.
