Popis projektu

This project consists of Low cost housing for fisherman community.
Bangladesh is uniquely blessed with vast water resources scattered all over the country in the form of rivers, ponds, ditches, beels, lakes, hoars, boars, floodplains and canals covering an area of 46,99,387 ha. Is known as “The land of rivers”.
Since the fishermen depend on the river, the fishing grounds can be seen along the banks of the river. The houses in the fisherman community (jele-para) were usually of temporary structure due to the frequent demolition of the banks of the river. Usually they would dry the nets in the dunes of the river.
The eternal truth of "Fish and rice makes a Bengali" is no more. Due to situation in the river, illegal occupation, water pollution, overpopulation, etc. the abundance of fish in the river has decreased alarmingly, forcing the fishermen of the Kaivarta society to take up other occupations. Those who are compelled to engage in fishing as their ancestral profession are barely surviving. The increase in the price of yarn for making nets, increase in the price of wood and other auxiliary materials for making boats is also a major factor in fishing.

Technické informace

Findings:

The livelihood status of fishermen around Pitaitikor is mediocre.

They are deprived from basic needs and solely dependent on riverine resources.

They were not aware of proper sanitation system, drainage system, education, balance nutrition and even their health conditions.

Government can come forward to provide educational facilities to the poor community people.

Awareness and guidance about health and sanitation could be created among local fishermen by providing some training programs.

The NGO’s can also come forward to improve the livelihood status of rural fishermen by providing sufficient loan which might be used for the up gradation of their way of earning and living.

If the government and non government organization would take proper and effective initiatives then the rapid development of the socio-economic condition of fishermen in study area would be inevitable.
