Idea projektu

Çanakkale, which acts as a bridge between the Asian and European continents, has hosted important cultures throughout the ages. It is a place where different traces of the multi-coloured heritage it creates dominate in its architecture and daily life. Çanakkale and Gallipoli are strategically very important regions that have hosted great wars due to their geographical location.

Popis projektu

Çanakkale War Museum is designed on an axis between Çimenlik Castle (1460s) located in the historical texture of the city in the north and Hamidiye Bastion (1892) in the south. The main goal of the design is to spatialize the destruction created by the war in memories and open it to emotional experience. In this context; The metaphor of LIFE, the DESTRUCTION caused by war, and the REVIVAL gained by rebuilding the lost, is tried to be achieved with a simulated HEART RHYTHM analogy. DESTRUCTION is the breaking point of this RHYTHM, and REVIVAL is captured in its continuation. While the graphic expression in the design makes reference to the castles and bastions that make the DARDANELLES IMPASSABLE, the main emphasis of HEART RHYTHM is the ÇANAKKALE MARTYRS' MONUMENT.

Technické informace

The construction of the building was made of reinforced concrete in order to feel the coldness of the war. As a bridge material, steel and glass were used together in order to watch the bastions opposite the situation.
