Airport "Severny" was founded in 1929 and until the 1960s of the last century was the only airport in Novosibirsk. Due to the development of the aviation industry, as well as the rapid growth of Novosibirsk, by the 2000s, the airport could no longer cope with its original function and was closed. Today it is located 5 km from the city center.

The project for the improvement of the territory of the former city airport "Severny" in Novosibirsk proposes the arrangement of a park of 200 hectares with a large functional content and the possibility of year-round use. The airport building is also expected to be endowed with new functions, including a restaurant, a lecture hall, classrooms, a museum, a library and much more.

Despite the large number of "green" zones on the map of Novosibirsk, there are very few truly useful public spaces like parks, squares, places for recreation and outdoor activities in the city. Therefore, it was decided to organize a large open park in the place of the "Severny" one, where one could spend time at any season of the year.

Urban planning analysis shows the predominance of private and high-rise residential buildings, as well as the proximity of the business center and commercial zone, which already now attract a large number of people to this place. The forested areas that are in close proximity are, in fact, just free-growing grass and trees without any infrastructure. Therefore, even if residents of more remote areas of the city do not come to the new park often, it can be useful for those who live and work nearby.

One of the main objectives of the development was the need to create territories that could be used year-round for various functions. This project shows the possibility of using the area in summer and winter. So, football and basketball fields in winter are used for figure skating, hockey and curling, bicycle jumps for snowboarding, and mini golf fields as ski tracks.

During the project, the concepts of some objects and buildings on the territory of the future park were also developed. Among them are multifunctional galleries, a concert venue and a driving cinema, tribunes, lodges and lavatories. Objects or elements of aviation were taken as formative ideas.

The renovation project of the building involves the restoration of the historical appearance of the facade, as well as the reconstruction of the interiors, taking into account new functional solutions and modern trends in interior design of public spaces.

Technické informace

The project offers a wide functional content of the former airport, suitable not only for the recreation of local residents, but also creating an environment that can attract both beginners and professional athletes, local craftsmen, fans of festivals, concerts and even tourists. On the territory, it is proposed to keep the features already loved by residents, such as driving cinema, and add a huge number of new ones, including an event stage, a canal for water walks, a forest zone, a restaurant, a museum, a library and much more.
