Poor palace
The "poor palace" project responds to a commission linking social housing and a gallery for the city of Trebic. The commissioned plot is located in its south-eastern part - in Jejkova, in a gap in Otmarova Street and is considerably limited by the northern orientation of the street edge of the plot and the large elevated car park to the south.
It was thus clear that the use of the site for housing purposes while maintaining the existing urban structure (street line, block structure of the development) was rather problematic. The answer is the orientation of the windows of the living rooms of the flats towards the 'inside', which subsequently led to the motif of the courtyard as an eternal space that would inclusively serve all users of the space (residents, gallery visitors, pedestrians); this is also supported by the staircase connecting the elevated platform of the courtyard with Otmarova Street. This creates a public space where both gallery events and the processes of everyday life can expand without interfering with each other. The apparent conflict between public and private is resolved by the concept of a gallery around the inner perimeter of the residential building, with front gardens on the ground floor.
This gallery also allows the apartments to have an exposed but still private exterior. The two-storey layout of the flats thus provides ample space for a front garden and a living terrace, and the flats are very close to the qualities of family houses, which as such are still the preferred option for small-town living. The ground-floor flats are then designed partly as barrier-free, or as minimal 2 + kk, so as to create the most diverse range of flats.
The roof of the apartment building is additionally closed from the south by a platform that separates the courtyard from the adjacent public parking lot. It is then closed from the north side by the gallery building. Paradoxically, this creates a typology that is strikingly close to a city palace.
For the gallery, the key was to achieve a layout that would provide the most generous and dignified exhibition space. The main exhibition hall is elevated over two floors and basilically lit from the street side of the façade, giving it a characteristically intimate atmosphere.
The façade facing the street is designed as self-supporting, added to the mass of the building itself. The façade is designed in a regular, easy to understand rhythm, accentuated by long horizontal cornices. The basic element is a V-shaped column of coloured white concrete, curving away from the building. The façade of the apartment building also adopts this articulation, but is finished in dark stucco and the cornices and corbelling break inwards.

Chudej palác
Projekt „chudého paláce“ reagujue na zadání propojující sociální bydlení a galerii pro město Třebíč. Zadaná parcela je situována v jeho jihovýchodní části - na Jejkově, v proluce v ulici Otmarova a je značně limitována severní orientací uliční hrany pozemku a rozlehlým převýšeným parkovištěm na jihu.
Bylo tak jasné, že využití pozemku pro účely bydlení za současného dodržení stávající urbanistické struktury (uliční čára, bloková struktura zástavby) poměrně problematické. Odpovědí je orientace oken obytných místností bytů směrem „dovnitř“, z čehož se následně vyvinul motiv dvora jako večejného prostranství, které by inkluzivně sloužilo všem uživatelům tohoto prostoru (obyvatelé, návštěvníci galerie, chodci), to podporuje také schodiště propojující vyvýšenou platformu dvora s ulicí Otmarova. Vzniká tak veřejný prostor, kam mohou expandovat jak akce galerie, tak procesy všedního života aniž by se vzájemně rušili. Zdánlivý konflikt mezi veřejným a soukromým je řešen konceptem ochozu po vnitřním obvodu obytné budovy, v přízemí pomocí předzahrádek.
Tento ochoz zároveň umožňuje dodat bytům sice odhalený, ale stále soukromý exteriér. Při dvoupatrovém řešení bytů tak vzniká dostatek prostoru pro předzahrádku i obytnou terasu a byty se tak velmi blíží kvalitám rodinných domů, které jsou jako takové stále preferovanou možností bydlení na maloměstě. Přízemní byty jsou pak řešeny částečně jako bezbariérové, případně jako minimální 2 + kk, tak aby vznikla co nejrozmanitější nabídka bytů.
Ochoz bytového domu je z jihu navíc uzavřen platformou, která odděluje dvůr od přilehlého veřejného parkoviště. Ze severní strany je pak uzavřena budovou galerie. Paradoxně tak vzniká tak typologie až nápadně se blížící městskému paláci.
U galerie bylo stěžejní dosáhnout takového uspořádání, které poskytne co nejvíce velkorysé a důstojné výstavní prostory. Hlavní výstavní sál je převýšen přes dvě podlaží a bazilikálně osvětlen z uliční strany fasády, což mu dodává charakteristickou intimní atmosféru.
Fasáda směrem do ulice je řešena jako samonosná, přidána k samotné hmotě budovy. Fasáda je řešena v pravidelném, snadno srozumitelném rytmu, podtrhnutým dlouhými horizontálními římsami. Základním prvkem je sloupek ve tvaru V z probarveného bílého betonu, vlamující se směrem od budovy. Tuto artikulaci přejímá i fasáda bytového domu, je však řešena v tmavém štuku a římsy i šambrány se prolamují směrem dovnitř.
